Cyclos and Pedicabs: In cities like Hanoi and Hue, you can experience a unique mode of transport via cyclos or pedicabs. These human-powered vehicles offer a slow, enjoyable way to explore city streets.

Taxis: Taxis are prevalent in urban areas and are relatively inexpensive. Make sure to choose reputable companies, and insist on using the meter to avoid overcharging.

Cyclos and Xe Om: Cyclos are three-wheeled cycle rickshaws, and xe om refers to motorcycle taxis. Both are common in cities and are suitable for short trips.

Boats and Ferries: In places like the Mekong Delta and Halong Bay, boats and ferries are essential for exploring the picturesque waterways and islands.

Walking: In cities and towns, walking is an ideal way to soak in the local atmosphere, explore markets, and discover hidden gems.

Car Rentals: If you’re comfortable driving in Vietnam, renting a car provides flexibility for exploring remote areas. However, traffic can be chaotic in cities, so exercise caution.

Ride-Sharing Apps: Uber and Grab (a Southeast Asian ride-sharing platform) are widely used in cities, providing a convenient and safe way to get around.

The best mode of transportation in Vietnam largely depends on your budget, itinerary, and preferences. Many travelers opt for a combination of these options to fully experience the diverse landscapes and culture of this beautiful country.

Vietnam Climate

Vietnam’s climate varies from north to south due to its long and narrow geography, which spans a range of latitudes. Generally, Vietnam can be divided into three regions: the North, Central, and South.

Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Halong Bay):

Winter (November to February): Cool and dry with temperatures averaging 15-20°C (59-68°F). This is the best time to visit for pleasant weather, but Hanoi can get quite foggy.
Spring (March to April): Mild and gradually warming, with blooming flowers. A lovely time to explore the region.
Summer (May to September): Hot and humid, with occasional heavy rainfall. Typhoons are possible later in the season.

Central Vietnam (Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An):

Winter (November to February): Mild and dry, ideal for beach visits and exploring historic sites.
Spring (March to May): Warm and pleasant, with clear skies. Great for outdoor activities.
Summer (June to August): Hot and humid, with occasional tropical storms. Beaches are popular during this time.
Autumn (September to October): Comfortable temperatures and less rain, making it a favorable time to visit.

Southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta):

Dry Season (November to April): The best time to visit, with low humidity and pleasant temperatures. Ideal for exploring cities and the Mekong Delta.
Wet Season (May to October): Hot, humid, and rainy, with occasional flooding. However, rain often comes in short, heavy bursts, so travel is still possible.

The best time to visit Vietnam

The best time to visit Vietnam largely depends on the specific regions you plan to explore and your weather preferences. Overall, the period from November to April is considered the peak travel season for most of the country, offering pleasant weather and ideal conditions for outdoor activities. However, this is also when popular tourist destinations can be crowded, so booking accommodations and tours in advance is advisable. If you prefer fewer crowds and don’t mind occasional rain, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons of spring or autumn, when the weather is still pleasant, and prices may be lower.
