Day 1 | Welcome to Madrid

Your airport transfer departs from Madrid airport to your hotel at 09:00, 11:30, 13:30, or 16:00. While in Madrid, explore the city’s elegant boulevards, expansive parks, and varied architectural styles. At 18:30, join your Travel Director for a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2 | The Old Capital of Toledo and On to Granada

Visit the fascinating city of Toledo, situated high above the River Tagus. Explore this historic city, once Spain’s capital, where Arab, Jewish, and Christian cultures flourished during the Middle Ages. Meet a master artisan in a Damascene workshop and gain insight into this ancient craft. Enjoy a guided walk through Toledo’s narrow cobbled streets with a Local Expert, and visit the Church of Santo Tomé, home to El Greco’s famous painting, ‘The Burial of the Count of Orgaz.’ Continue your journey to Granada.

Day 3 | The Alhambra Palace and Seville, City of Carmen

Begin your day at the Alhambra Palace, a stunning complex of gardens, fountains, and intricate stonework. Explore with a Local Expert, and visit the Generalife, the summer residence of the Spanish royals. Enjoy panoramic views over Granada before continuing to Seville. Visit the Seville Cathedral, the burial place of Christopher Columbus, and explore the city with Insight Choice – choose a walking tour through the old Jewish quarter or enjoy a panoramic drive.

Day 4 | Free Time and Flamenco in Seville

Spend the day at leisure in Seville or join an optional excursion to Córdoba to visit the Mezquita, an 8th-century mosque with a cathedral built inside. Later, visit the Cristina Heeren Foundation, a private flamenco dance school dedicated to promoting the conservation of flamenco, and enjoy a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience with a dance lesson and performance.

Day 5 | Évora and Onto Lisbon

Continue to Évora, a lively university town in Portugal with architectural styles dating back to Roman times. Visit the Capela dos Ossos, a chapel decorated with human bones, before heading to Lisbon.

Day 6 | Lisbon and the Age of the Discoveries

Enjoy a guided city orientation with a Local Expert, exploring Lisbon’s avenues, the Bairro Alto, and the Terreiro do Paco. Visit the Belém Quarter to taste Pastéis de Belém and view the Monument to the Discoveries and the historic Belém Tower. Visit the National Coach Museum. In the afternoon, consider an optional excursion to the Portuguese Riviera.

Day 7 | Holy Fátima and Salamanca

Travel north to Fátima, Portugal’s most celebrated pilgrimage site, and visit the chapel commemorating the Virgin Mary’s appearance in 1917. Cross the border back into Spain and continue to Salamanca, known for its golden stone buildings and the Plaza Mayor. View the ancient Roman Puente Romano.

Day 8 | Ávila and Madrid

Journey to Ávila and admire the city’s 11th-century walls, still fully intact. Return to Madrid and explore more of the capital with a Local Expert. Spend the afternoon discovering its grand avenues before enjoying a Celebration Dinner with your Travel Director and fellow travelers.
